Item Description: Delacorte Press, New York, 1968. First edition. Octavo, original half cloth. Inscribed by the author to famed editor William Targ, "For Bill Targ- Have a Nice Life, Bill- Kurt Vonnegut Jr." Fine in a near fine dust jacket with the lightest of shelfwear. Targ was a book editor and probably most well-known for publishing Mario Puzo's novel The Godfather while editor in chief of G. P. Putnam's Sons. After retiring from Putnam in 1978, he founded Targ Editions. He sought to publish works by contemporary writers which included, John Updike, Saul Bellow, Tennessee Williams, Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, and Norman Mailer. Welcome to the Monkey House is a collection of Vonnegut's short masterpieces which share his audacious sense of humor and extraordinary creative vision. "He strips the flesh from bone and makes you laugh while he does it. There are twenty-five stories here, and each hits a nerve ending" (Charlotte Observer). Bookseller Inventory # 4156
