About this Item: Harper & Brothers, New York, New York, 1901. Original Wraps. Condition: Fair. First printing. Single issue. Small quarto, 10 1/4" tall, pages 165 to 326 + ads, printed beige wraps. A good issue over all with minor shelf wear and exterior soiling, rubbing and edge chipping to the back strip, Interior clean binding solid, paper just slightly yellowed, BUT several illustrations from the Newport story are cut out and there is a dampstain to the bottom fore-edge margin which does not affect text. This is an original issue and includes all of the editorial material (articles, stories, poetry, etc.) as well as the advertisements and covers. Note: ''Harper's Magazine' began publication in 1850 and recreated the American magazine, serving as a promotional vehicle for Harper and Brothers books as well as the new 'literary' fiction and essay of the time, using sophisticated illustration and the best authors. Subject matters range from art, fiction, and poetry to history and science. As such it makes a terrific read as an anthology of its moment in time. Seller Inventory # 26162

About this Item: Century Company, New York, New York, 1917. Stiff Printed Wraps. Condition: Good. First edition thus. Single issue, Small quarto, 9 3/4" tall, pages 641 to 800 + 76 ads, stiff illustrated wraps. A good, original, soft cover magazine over all with minor shelf wear overall, cover color slightly faded with some exterior surface soiling and minor creasing, cover edges chipped, and with a tear at the spine, back strip significantly chipping at top and bottom of spine, BUT the primary fault is a dampstain to the top and fore-edge throughout--primaily to the margin only; interior otherwise very good binding solid, paper clean and lightly yellowed. This is an original copy with all of the editorial material and advertisements. "Note: 'The Century Magazine' was retitled from the earlier 'Scribner's Monthly' (thus the 'New Series' title statement) in 1881, with new management, under the editorship of the great Richard Watson Gilder, carrying forward its high standards for illustration and the best authors. Subject matters range from art, fiction, and poetry to history and science. As such it makes a terrific read as an anthology of its moment in time. Seller Inventory # 27394

About this Item: G.P. Putnam's Sons, New York, New York, 1870. Pictorial Wraps. Condition: Very Good. First printing. A single issue, including covers and ads. Small quarto, 10" tall, pages 265 to 384 + ads , sewn binding, illustrated wraps. A very good issue overall--a soft cover magazine with minor shelf wear, BUT exterior cover paper has become brittle and has chipped at all edges; internally clean, binding solid, paper lightly yellowed. This is an original copy with all of the editorial material and advertisements. Note: This is the second incarnation of 'Putnam's Monthly' and also failed and was later combined with Scribner's Magazine' in 1871. Briggs had been a principle with the original and justly great publication by the same name (1853-57). It's high standard's made it a fine effort effort despite poor business sense and is still a terrific read as an anthology of its moment in time. Seller Inventory # 23073
