Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 3rd Edition. 367pp., xiv. First published in 1967; this copy, Stated: "Second Printing, 1972". Ends of Chapters (and passim) have helpful exercises and non-trivial Bibliographies; Index, pp. 359-367. Brown cloth with brilliant gilt lettering on spine and at upper center front cover; p. 365/366 has a 1/2" horizontal tear at bottom, where glue from book manufacture was slightly overflowed from under inside rear cover paste-down, causing two rear flyleafs and penultimate page of Index to adhere, being torn when separated (NO textual material is affected and last page of Index is fine: . Glossy white dustwrapper not price-clipped (no price), with title lettering in large black letters across very top front cover; subtitle in red lettering at lower left front cover, above author names in black; virtually unnoticeable toning to spine; 1/2" closed tear up lower right spine edge and 1/16" tear at lower left rear cover edge with minuscule horizontal short crease (both now backed with archival tape): describes much worse than it is: Now in Brodart mylar which forgives these peccadilloes graciously. Tight spine; sharp corners; no rubbing wear; no remainder marks; no previous owner names. Clean text. Looks little opened, if not Unread altogether. Solid copy. The way you want to read a book more than 50 years old, but arguably highly pertinent to today's political and moral divisiveness: ". . . the task (we might even say the moral obligation) of the philosopher (or a student or teacher of moral philosophy) is to remain open to new arguments and suggestions. A man who would, through the desire to seem right or through the fear of admitting he is wrong, adhere to his former opinions when conclusive reasons have been presented against them deserves whatever fruits his irrationality bears." (p. 353).
