Free of ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, or labels. A handsome copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing mild wear. and unobtrusive cosmetic imperfections. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (8.75 x 5.75 x 1.1 inches). xii, 337 pages. Edited by Robert Frew, D.D. Language: English. Weight: 21 ounces. Gray cloth over boards with gilt titles on a red field at backstrip and a small gilt design at front panel.First Edition Thus (1953); Third Printing. The text was first published in the 1830s. Hardback: Lacks DJ. Albert Barnes (1798 1870) was an American theologian, clergyman, abolitionist, temperance advocate, and author. Barnes is best known for his extensive Bible commentary and notes on the Old and New Testaments, published in a total of 14 volumes in the 1830s. His "Notes" is an all-purpose commentary. It embodies exactly those features which are valued and appreciated by ministers and laymen alike. Among these are (1) its verse-by-verse coverage of the Scriptural text, (2) its satisfying and penetrating explanation of each verse, (3) its practical application of the teachings of Scripture to everyday life, and (4) the clear and understandably expressed language of the commentary. All these virtues have extablished Barnes' Notes a useful commentary of contemporary relevance and help explain why his commentary has been kept in print almost continuously since its first appearance almost two centuries ago.
