Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. This book would grade "as-new unread," except that it has some light staining where there must have once been a liquid spill across the top page edges, which stains can also be seen to tops of rear endpapers and to top of dust jacket verso -- ginger ale? This doesn't impact readability of any text, but we nonetheless downgrade this copy to "good-plus." Inscribed and signed in the small hand of "Oscar B. Goodman" to FFE. Inscribed by the subject, only, NOT by author and newspaperman John L. Smith. (We do offer two, nicer, double-signed copies, separately.) 419 pp. including index. Reduced from $37. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. 1st ed/Later printing, SIGNED by the author on the title page. This book is square, solid, and unread; the boards are solid and unblemished, and the dust jacket is sharp and in a protective Brodart cover. No price clippings, no remainder marks. You'll feel like reading some comics, mainlining some SF, and remembering back to your teen-aged years of wild abandon and unrequited first love; in short, channeling your inner geek, even if you never WERE one (and believe me, I WAS!) when you receive this book! NOTE: Very light evidence of handling to the sides of the pages, as well as the jacket, which sports one additional flaw -- on the back, right on the bar code, a little spot of the surface of the paper got peeled when someone inexpertly removed a price sticker. Signed by Author(s).

Published by Published by Ezra Meeker, Old Slip, NYC, 1926
First Edition Signed
Hardcover. 287p., a variety of illustrations, all present as called for (listed, about twenty) and in good shape, including the two frontis portraits, in one of which he is shown with President Calvin Coolidge. Presswork was done on lightly-toned acidic stock. Hardbound in 7.5x5 inch red cloth boards overprinted in white and green, and enclosed in a partial dust jacket. The book itself is sunned across the spine panel where the dj wasn't, has a small puncture to spine, is slightly edgeworn; book is otherwise quite good: hinges sound, both endsheets unmarred by anything besides the author's autograph, textblock bears a very faint crimp to corner-tips of about thirty-five leaves, cover and spine graphics are undamaged and vivid. The dust jacket is missing an enormous chunk (lower third) and has extensive tape-strengthening; too bad, because the dj verso bore a clear map of "the Trail", much clearer than the map bound in and printed on semi-acidic stock. Dj also bears much text that is useful and that remains readable. Robert Bruce in the brief introduction opines that Meeker is the sole human being to have ever "undertaken an important work of fiction in his 95th year". It reads well. Meeker himself contributes prefatory remarks, saying everything happened as described, that he had simply changed or added names.

Trade Paperback. Condition: Very Good+. Seventeenth printing, trade paperback, inscribed by Diaz on title page, has a tiny skew to binding, two very light spots of soiling to front cover, very slight bumps to spine ends and cover corners, a touch of edgewear, and a hint of sunning to spine, otherwise a solid, tight VG+ copy.
