Seller: My Father's Books, Bennington, VT, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Printed in Great Britain. [Date from the copyright page.] Third Impression. Introduction, Footnotes, Conclusion, Index; 344 pages, followed by publisher's catalogue [4]. The attractive blue cloth is in excellent shape with slight bumping to the head and tail of spine where the gilt lettering remains as bright as if just issued. Top-edge is colored blue. The interior is bright, fresh, and 340 pages are completely clean---HOWEVER, four pages of the introduction show faint marks as if from red pencil having been erased in the margins. [Visible in one of my five images of the actual book.] The original dust-jacket is price-clipped with a sunned spine and, on the rear flap, there is an interesting description of British wartime broadcasts over shortwave radio to inhabitants of the occupied countries of Europe---"giving the latest, most authentic news as soon as it is known." From the Introduction: "Chairs and tables do not, I fear, exist in the way in which in everyday life we suppose them to exist; but it does not follow that the physicist's analysis of them into atoms and electrons invested with secondary qualities projected upon them by the mind is therefore correct. So much, at least, I hope that I have shown." As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking. Please note that, due to COVID, overseas shipping may incur unusual delays.
