About this Item: The Cleaners' Press, Galveston, 1950. [i.e. New York & Washington: Kasper & Horton, ca. 1951]. Gray wrappers, printed in black, crudely pasted over the original binder's end leaves. Wrappers slightly dusty, but a very good copy. First edition, second binding (second state), of Bunting's first substantial collection of poetry, preceded only by REDIMICULUM MATELLARUM, a slim pamphlet issued twenty years earlier. With a Preface by Dallam Flynn. The entire edition consisted of one thousand copies (including twenty-five signed copies). This copy is in the second state of the second binding, with the publisher's New York address overstamped and their Washington address added on then rear wrapper. GUEDALLA A2. About this Item: The Cleaners' Press, Galveston, Texas, 1950. Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. (iv), 55 + (i) colophon. Bunting's first full collection which remained as the framework around which the next 35 years work would coalesce into the Collected Poems. 1000 copies. Unbound i.e. in its original taped plain white covers (the intended end papers). Missing the publisher's preface which Bunting never approved calling it "florid, effusive as John Barrymore". Its excision was evidently the work of Birmingham poet Roy Fisher who 15 years later as part of Migrant Press was to help distribute Bunting's next & amazingly first UK publication The Spoils. Fisher's ownership signature is on the ffep. All in all an active participant "cut every word you dare" association copy between two of our greatest poets. Very light soiling and signs of handling. About this Item: The Cleaner's Press circa 1950, Galveston, TX, 1950. Paperback. Condition: Good +. First edition. The poet's second book (twenty years after a scarce Italian publication) with a preface by Dallam Flynn. This is one of the copies (presumably a large portion of the edition) rebound in gray paper by Kasper & Horton with their name on the spine. The rear cover has a cancel, changing the Kasper and Horton address in New York to "Square Dollar Series", D. C. , thus in effect the third issue. 1000 copies in total were originally printed, those unsold were bought by K&H. Given that his next volume was not published for 15 years, and he was missing from most anthologies (Oscar William's in 1968 for instance) it is not surprising that it is uncommon book. This copy with a very good interior, the covers chipped and stained with some staining continuing to the preliminary pages. About as inexpensive a copy in reasonable condition as you are likely to find of this fine collection by one of the centuries (now) acknowledged masters. Seller Inventory # 3486

About this Item: The Cleaner's Press, Galveston, Texas., 1950. First edition. First issue in reddish boards with pale blue title labels on front and spine. Octavo. pp [x], 55. One of 1000 copies. The author's second book. The poems include Sonatas, Odes, Overdrafts, Chomei at Toyama etc. The five-page Preface by Dallam Flynn, which Bunting greatly disliked, is missing from most copies. Most of the sheets were sold to another company, who subsequently issued the book in wrappers without the Preface. On the front free endpaper is a gift inscription by Omar Pound, Ezra's son and a great friend of Bunting's: "To: J.F. Fearnley. April. 1953. Omar S. Pound".Tail of spine slightly rubbed. Very good indeed. No dustwrapper, but it is by no means certain that all copies were issued with one. Scarce. Seller Inventory # BUNTINGB026916
