First Edition
First edition. The poet's second book (twenty years after a scarce Italian publication) with a preface by Dallam Flynn. This is one of the copies (presumably a large portion of the edition) rebound in gray paper by Kasper & Horton with their name on the spine. The rear cover has a cancel, changing the Kasper and Horton address in New York to "Square Dollar Series", D. C. , thus in effect the third issue. 1000 copies in total were originally printed, those unsold were bought by K&H. Given that his next volume was not published for 15 years, and he was missing from most anthologies (Oscar William's in 1968 for instance) it is not surprising that it is uncommon book. This copy with a very good interior, the covers chipped and stained with some staining continuing to the preliminary pages. About as inexpensive a copy in reasonable condition as you are likely to find of this fine collection by one of the centuries (now) acknowledged masters.

The poems include Sonatas, Odes, Overdrafts, Chomei at Toyama etc. The five-page Preface by Dallam Flynn, which Bunting greatly disliked, is missing from most copies. On the front free endpaper is a gift inscription by Omar Pound, Ezra's son and a great friend of Bunting's: "To: J.F. Fearnley. April. 1953. Omar S. Pound".Tail of spine slightly rubbed.
