"Rosa Bonheur" by Robyn Montana Turner, was published in 1991 by Little, Brown in their "Portraits of Women Artists for Children" series. This is the First Edition, stated as such in the book, and with accompanying number line to that effect. The book is now Out of Print (OP). Rosa Bonheur was born in France in 1822 to a family of artists. She was persistent in her efforts to become a painter. At the height of her artistic career she is considered by many to have been the most famous 19th century female artist. Her most famous paints are "Ploughing in the Nivernais", and "The Horse Fair"; the second of those can be viewed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The book features eight wonderful full-page engravings (including the frontispiece), as well as poems by various contributors. The book is larger in size - it measures 14 1/8" tall x 10 3/4" wide. Condition: Staining and foxing spots to the front cover; the back cover is mostly clean with only some fading to the cloth along the perimeter. Partial label affixed to the top of the spine. The front cover has a small chip/piece missing at the outer edge. Small cloth tears at the top and bottom edges of the spine, and at the cover corners. There are cracks at the front and rear hinges with separation between the covers and text block, though the text block remains firmly in place and securely attached. Pieces have torn away at the lower-outer corner of the front end paper. The front pastedown has "341" written in pencil, the initials "U.M." written in blue pencil, and a previous owner's bookplate affixed. Foxing to the pages and plates throughout the book. The tissue guard over the frontispiece has a 3" tear at the outer edge. Overall in Fair condition.
