About this Item: GRIN Publishing, 2013. Paperback. Condition: New. 1. Auflage.. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2013 in the subject Agrarian Studies, Junagadh Agricultural University (Department of Horticulture), course: Horticulture, language: English, abstract: An experiment was carried out to study effect of pre-cooling on post harvest life of Sapota (Manilkara achras (Mill) Fosberg) cv. Kalipatti at the Post Graduate Laboratory of the Department of Horticulture, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh during the year 2010. The various pre-cooling treatments viz., control, pre-cooling at 6C, pre-cooling at 8C, pre-cooling at 10C and pre-cooling at 12C for 2 hours, 5 hours and 8 hours respectively with Completely Randomized Design with three repetition having total thirteen treatments. The results of the study indicated that mango fruits treated with different pre-cooling treatment showed lower and slower rate in physical and chemical changes than control fruits. The fruits treated with pre-cooling at 8C for 8 hr proved to be most effective with respect to more number of days taken to ripe, longer shelf life, lower percentage of spoilage and higher percentage of marketable fruits. Lower physiological loss in weight and higher firmness of fruits. The treatment was also promising for slower increase in TSS, reducing sugar and total sugar, while slower decrease in ascorbic acid and acidity during storage. The organoleptic rating with regard to colour, taste and overall acceptability was also found significantly higher in pre-cooling at 8C for 8 hr treated fruits. Seller Inventory # APC9783656435204

About this Item: New India Publishing Agency, 2012. Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 1st Edition. Post harvest is the time that begins with separation of commodity from growing of production medium like fruits/vegetables from the plants, fishes from ponds etc. The term post harvest technology means the use of science and technology for the management of food commodities including pre cooling, grading, sorting, packaging transportation, storage, processing, and development of improved product, preservation and marketing etc. The use of the information generated by the techniques of Post Harvest Technology can ensure greater availability of a wide variety of food to the consumers with reduced post harvest losses. Based on the importance of the post harvest technology in agriculture and allied sciences it is presumed that all people engaged in agriculture should known about the various terminologies being used in post harvest technology. But to understand the various concepts some sort of documentations is needed. A manuscript having such information would be the strongest link between the industry academia and the consumers. About this Item: Springer-Verlag New York Inc., United States, 2010. Hardback. Condition: New. 1st Edition.. Language: English . Brand New Book. As a collection of papers that includes material presented at the 2008 International Congress for Plant Pathology, this text features research right at the leading edge of the field. The latest findings are particularly crucial in their implications for fruit production; an important market sector where in some areas up to 50 per cent of the crop can be lost after harvest. While post-harvest fruit treatments with fungicides are the most effective means to reduce decay, rising concerns about toxicity have led to the development of alternative approaches to disease control, including biological methods, the subject of three chapters of this book. With several new techniques requiring modification of current post-harvest practices, it is more important than ever to stay abreast of the latest information. Other chapters deal with the mechanisms of host fruit and vegetable resistance, fungal pathogenicity factors and their relationship with the host response, and a number of subjects related to disease assessments before harvest as well as their relationship to the postharvest treatment of fruits and vegetables. The book also includes several useful case studies of crops such as kiwifruit and peaches, where different approaches at the pre- and post-harvest levels are combined to good effect. With food production issues gaining an ever higher profile internationally, this text makes an important contribution to the debate. Seller Inventory # LIB9781402089299

About this Item: John Wiley and Sons Ltd, United Kingdom, 2012. Hardback. Condition: New. 1. Auflage. Language: English . Brand New Book. International trade in high value perishables has grown enormously in the past few decades. In the developed world consumers now expect to be able to eat perishable produce from all parts of the world, and in most cases throughout the year. Perishable plant products are, however, susceptible to physical damage and often have a potential storage life of only a few days. Given their key importance in the world economy, Crop Post-Harvest Science and Technology: Perishables devotes itself to perishable produce, providing current and comprehensive knowledge on all the key factors affecting post-harvest quality of fruits and vegetables. This volume focuses explicitly on the effects and causes of deterioration, as well as the many techniques and practices implemented to maintain quality though correct handling and storage. As highlighted throughout, regular losses caused by post-harvest spoilage of perishable products can be as much as 50 . A complete understanding, as provided by this excellent volume, is therefore vital in helping to reduce these losses by a significant percentage. Compiled by members of the world-renowned Natural Resources Institute at the United Kingdom s University of Greenwich, with contributions from experts around the world, this volume is an essential reference for all those working in the area. Researchers and upper-level students in food science, food technology, post-harvest science and technology, crop protection, applied biology and plant and agricultural sciences will benefit from this landmark publication. Libraries in all research establishments and universities where these subjects are studied and taught should ensure that they have several copies for their shelves.
