About this Item: (WATERGATE). Poster. 22 ½â x 17 ½â. 1973. No place. A poster entitled âThe Watergate Affairâ. It shows the Watergate in the center and the Capitol dome at the top and the White House at the bottom. There are caricatures of seven individuals associated with the scandal, including H.R. Haldeman, John W. Dean III, E. Howard Hunt, Jr., G. Gordon Liddy, James McCord, John Mitchell and John Ehrlicman [sic]. Although these are not the exact âWatergate Seven,â many of these men spent time in prison. The poster is printed on light green paper and has a 1973 copyright date. In the letter he thanks Aaron Asher, longtime editor at Meridian Books, for the "handsome edition of Mayakovsky", referring to the 1960 collection The Bedbug and selected poetry, which has introduced generations of American readers to the great Russian poet and remains in print. "It was very enterprising of you to use the Russian text, and I hope the experiment is successful, so that you can do the same thing with other Russian poets." He recommends Woe from Wit by Griboyedov, saying "Only a poet could translate it.
