About this Item: np (1966), New York, 1966. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 8.5" x 11" offset flyer. Black-and-white photograph of Warhol with Gerard Malanga, Edie Sedgwick, and the band (sans Nico); text below. PROVENANCE: From the estate of Velvet Underground guitarist Sterling Morrison, with Morrison's widow Martha's signed letter of provenance included. Four long flattened creases from having been folded. Very good. Andy Warhol began his famed association with The Velvet Underground in late 1965, after catching the band at Cafe Bizarre in the Village. He found the Velvets "fabulous and demented" and offered (at Paul Morrissey's urging) to manage the group. Morrissey had been looking for a house band to be part of a series of multimedia happenings he and Warhol had envisioned. The debut of these extravaganzas soon occurred (infamously) at the New York Society for Clinical Psychiatry dinner (Herald Tribune headline: "Psychiatrists Flee Warhol"). But the performances promoted in this flyer represent the first public appearances of the band with Nico and predate their debut album (produced by Warhol and featuring his iconic banana design) by more than a year. Appearing with the Velvets and Warhol were Edie Sedgwick, Gerard Malanga, Morrissey, Donald Lyons, Barbara Rubin, Bob Neuwirth, Daniel Williams and Billy Linich (aka Billy Name), many of whom eventually become members of the Exploding Plastic Inevitable. And the Cinematheque shows clearly anticipate the Inevitable. The band performed in front of screens projecting Warhol's VINYL, EAT, and EMPIRE, and the show featured (according to the flyer): "Up-tight Rock 'n Roll, Whip Dancers, Film maker Freaks, Tapers, Anchovies, filming live episodes of the 'Up-Tight' series and including Film Premiere for the first time anywhere: Andy Warhol's MORE MILK, YVETTE starring Maria Montez and The Velvet Underground." Designed by Morrissey and featuring an image of Warhol with the Velvets taken at the Factory New Year's Eve 1965, this rare flyer is "the very first document linking Andy Warhol with The Velvet Underground" (Kugelberg, NEW YORK ART, 58). See also: Kugelberg, C/O THE VELVET UNDERGROUND (54) and DeRogatis, THE VELVET UNDERGROUND: An Illustrated History Of A Walk On The Wild Side (48). From the estate of Sterling Morrison (who was something of the band's unofficial archivist during their career), a spectacular association of both a key Warhol event and a pivotal Velvet Underground performance. About this Item: Lincoln Center / List Art Poster and Print Program, New York, 1964. Original lithograph designed by Saul Bass for the Second New York Film Festival, held at Lincoln Center on September 14-26, 1964. INSCRIBED at the bottom right by Bass to Film Festival founder Amos Vogel: "to Amos Vogel : from Saul Bass."The New York Film Festival was founded in 1963 by Amos Vogel and Richard Roud, and to this day serves as a major taste-maker for American cinephiles, bringing the best films from around the world by directors established, new, and forgotten. The 1964 festival began with Grigori Kozintsev's "Hamlet," concluded with Satyajit Ray's "The Big City," and featured Bunuel's "L'Age d'or" as it's retrospective feature. As influential and forward-thinking as the festival is, it is matched by its iconic poster designs. Developed by Vera List, a New York City art collector and philanthropist, the poster program commissioned some the most famous artist of the day to design posters that would function as much as art as advertisement. In addition to Saul Bass, artists who have designed posters for the festival include Larry Rivers, Bruce Conner, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Richard Avedon, Robert Rauschenberg, and Cindy Sherman. Amos Vogel (1921-2012) was one of the most influential cineastes in New York City. He is best known for his bestselling book "Film as a Subversive Art" (1974) and as the founder of the New York City avantgarde cine-club Cinema 16 (1947-1963), where he was the first programmer to present films by Roman Polanski, John Cassavetes, Nagisa Oshima, Jacques Rivette and Alain Resnais as well as early and important screenings by American avant-gardists of the time like Stan Brakhage, Maya Deren, James Broughton, Kenneth Anger, Sidney Peterson, Bruce Conner, Carmen D'Avino and many others. In 1963, together with Richard Roud, he founded the New York Film Festival, and served as its program director until 1968. In 1973, Vogel started the Annenberg Cinematheque at the University of Pennsylvania and was eventually given a Chair for film studies at the Annenberg School for Communication, where he taught and lectured for two decades. Near Fine condition. White background lightly soiled, with a touch of professional restoration to the edges. 29.75 X 45.75 inches, linen backed and rolled. From the estate of New York Film Festival founder Amos Vogel. Bass & Kirkham, p. 62. Seller Inventory # 129359

There is no data of the print run and the printer, most likely printed in Leningrad as the author lived there until 1929. Good condition, restored loss on bottom margin, backed on linen. Horizontal. About this Item: Hammer Film Productions / Rank Organisation, The, London, 1980. Souvenir version of the Shooting script for the 1971 film, circa 1980s. The specially bound volume contains the entire script, preceded by a facsimile of the standard British style front script wrapper (with a die-cut title window), several production photos of the twins, the original British Quad poster by Hammer's legendary house artist Tom Chantrell, an X-rated preproduction British poster design by Chantrell (documented but never used), the Spanish poster, and (this is our favorite part) an image of the VHS box. INSCRIBED on the various images in round-robin fashion by leading actresses Mary and Madeleine Collinson, Isobel Black, Damien Thomas, and legendary Hammer poster artist Tom Chantrell. Based on the 1872 vampire novella "Carmilla" by Sheridan Le Fanu, and the third and final film in Hammer's "Karnstein Trilogy" which includes, "The Vampire Lovers" and "Lust for a Vampire." In October 1970 the films producer, Harry Fine, saw Madeleine and Mary Collinson as the first identical twins centerfold feature of "Playboy" and in his pursuit to cast the twins changed the film's original title, "Vampire Virgins," to "Twins of Evil." Madeleine was a self proclaimed horror fan and thus would play opposite her sister as the 'evil' twin. The twins had been modeling only a short while in London since moving from their home in Malta and their English was at such a level their voices were dubbed. Set in Victorian Germany, shot on location in Buckinghamshire, UK and Centralni Filmski Studio Kosutnjak, Belgrade, Serbia. Black leather covered boards, title stamped in red on spine, red endpapers. Title page present. 115 leaves, with last page of text numbered 109. Photographically reproduced on coated stock. Pages Near Fine, binding Very Good plus. Weldon 1983. Seller Inventory # 143134

About this Item: No Binding. Condition: New. Limited Edition. SIGNED BY THE ARTIST. A stunning 1971 film poster, stored in a lightfast drawer since its limited publication. THIS IS A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO BUY A FILM POSTER SIGNED BY THE ARTIST. This film was an example of the German Avant Garde cinema. A recent article about the film said: "Haro Senft's FEGEFEUER (1971) is a highly experimental & at the same time political movie which in a brilliant artistic manner tells the difficult story of a young outsider & his involuntary being entangled in the moral ambiguities of the society he lives in. especially the outstanding montage-technique of the movie - with, at that time, very avantgarde image-cut-up sequences - represents the changes in the mind of the young hero: first, he is solitary & by himself & in the end, after having gone through tremendous expansions of his consciousness, he becomes "one of us". although the movie - from the present perspective - looks somewhat "historical", it did pave the way for new cinematographic ways of showing the inner worlds & processes of conscious individual evolution. the musical score by SUPERTRAMP (the only movie- score they ever did) is wild & heavy & adds the fever & the unrest of the 60s & the early 70s to the story." THIS BEAUTIFUL PROOF HAS BEEN SIGNED BY THE ARTIST. THE ORIGINAL ARTWORK IS ALSO AVAILABLE - PLEASE ASK FOR DETAILS. Language: eng. Signed by Author(s). Seller Inventory # ABE-1488780138546

About this Item: Dilettante Press & Kesho Press, Los Angeles, 2000. Boards in Illustrated Jacket. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First Edition. 305pp, profusely illustrated in color. "Extreme Canvas." is noted Los Angeles-based African Art scholar Ernie Wolfe's compendium of vivid, vulgar and outrageous examples of indigenous Ghanaian vernacular movie advertisements. These hand-painted, one-of-a-kind canvases resemble vintage American carnival sideshow banners, and were typically commissioned to adorn local video stores. The posters are particularly amusing in that their lurid images may or may not have anything to do with the actual content of the film they are representing, and poignant in their irony of promoting Hollywood's excess in the dry, dusty West African villages in which they hang. The book's remarkable roster of essayists include Clive Barker, LeVar Burton, Deirdre Evans-Pritchard, Walter Hill, Anjelica Huston, John Milius, Roy Sieber, Paul Hayes Tucker, Gus Van Sant, and John Yau - each writing on the film genre of their choice. A brand new, most handsome example of the 2000 hardbound first edition additionally BOLDLY SIGNED "Ernie Wolfe III" by the author in black marker on the first preliminary. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its weight - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase. Signed by the Author.
