About this Item: United States Printing and Lithograph Co, Chicago, 1914. Condition: Near fine. Striking color pictorial one sheet, 41" X 27" (lithograph). A classic of cinema incunabula, from the original serial by Charles Goddard for the Eclectic Film Co. (episode 4). Little specks of wear and rubbing restored, near fine, neatly backed. Framed. Rarer than an honest movie trailer, especially when compared to posters from the talking pictures era. My tracking of posters is imprecise but I found 3 Perils of Pauline one sheet auction records from Christie's long ago (random, from among 20 serial episodes, each with a different image), $6,600 in 1992, $8,000 in 1995, and $7,500 in 1996. Ex-Camden House, 1985 (their grade was "condition A"). Pauline (Pearl White) evades attempts on her life by pirates, rats, Indians, gypsies, sharks and her dastardly guardian Her most symbolic plight is being tied to railroad tracks in front of a rapidly approaching train. The upcoming 21st century sequel, with a plot that turns towards realism, finds a periled Pauline giving her Visa number, expiration date, billing address, and social security number to 15 different, now defunct and desperate dot-coms. And speaking of modern movements in the 21st century, as the adverse dominates movies, artists across American feed on the new economy and rape the new culture with their own movement for film, theater, literature, music, sculpture, paper, and canvas, begging to be called 21st century depressionism. About this Item: National Miners Relief Committee n.d., but 1928, Pittsburgh, 1928. Poster advertising the buying and selling of Solidarity Certificates, issued by the communist-led National Miners Relief Committee, formed in response to a 16 month-long strike which left 150,000 miners in Ohio and Pennsylvania unemployed. The strike began after the workers in the bituminous coal fields experienced signifiant wage cuts in 1928. When the United Mine Workers' Union failed to support its members, the National Miners Relief Committee was formed, gaining notoriety after collaborating with Hollywood film director Sam Burke in the making of the propagandistic silent film documentary "The Miners' Strike" (1928). The present poster apparently issued early in the strike, warning readers that "If the Miners Union is destroyed the open shopper will next attack other organized trades" and "the American Labor movement will suffer a fatal blow and wages of organized as well as unorganized workers will go down." Members of the labor classes were thus encouraged to "Enlist at once in the Biggest Campaign for Strikers Relief ever undertaken by the Workers of America by buying and selling Solidarity Certificates for Miners Relief," the money being used for food and tents to feed and shelter the families of the striking miners. We find no copies catalogued in OCLC as of August, 2017.References: Steven J. Ross. Working-Class Hollywood (1999), p. 221.M. Keith Booker. Film and the American Left (1999), p. 21. Original photo-illustrated poster (63.5x48.5cm.) printed lithograph in brown on white stock; previous horizontal folds, extremities a bit chipped, else Very Good and sound overall. About this Item: S.i., [London, 1978. Poster produced by the Huntley Street Squatters, who were located at 1-9 Huntley Street in Bloomsbury. In addition to being the center of the London Squatters Union, the Huntley Street squat was home to more than 150 squatters and 32 children who occupied the building in 1977-78. The mansion block, owned by Camden and Islington Health Authority, had lain empty for two years, and quickly became a focus for the squatters' movement in London. Led by Piers Corbyn, the squatters set up a café, hosted festivals, and even set up an office which helped to re-house the homeless. After 17 months, 300 police officers with bulldozers converged upon the building and evicted all who lived there. A rare poster; no examples in the trade (2014), not listed in OCLC, with the only example found by us held at the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam. A4. About this Item: N.p., 1965. Paperback. Striking portrait of a folksinger with a twelve-string guitar. Though untitled, the image bears a strong resemblance to Newman's 2009 poster-portrait of Pete Seeger, who we strongly suspect is the subject of this piece as well. Rare image by the talented West Coast printmaker Earl Newman (b. 1930), who began designing posters for the California music scene in the late 1950s. Some of his best-known designs have been his annual posters for the Monterey Jazz Festival, which he began producing in 1963. Original four-color screenprint, 89cm x 57cm (ca 35" x 22-1/2"), on heavy white poster stock. Signed in pencil lower right, dated 1965. Light edgewear; darkening and adhesive tape remnants to verso; image bright and clean - Very Good to Near Fine. Seller Inventory # 16063
