About this Item: Sydney and Melbourne Publishing,, Sydney, 1947. Soft Covers. Condition: VG. No Jacket. Photos, Technical and Commercial Art, Drawings, Diagrams (illustrator). 1st Thus. These annual technical journals were produced over many years by the publisher of "Power Farming in Australian," and provided excellent information on farming, acricultural and construction machinery and related equipment. This 1947 edition of the annual would have been of particular interest in providing up-to-date information on new equipment becoming available following the shortage, and virtual non-availibility. of such essential equipment during the years of World War Two. The contents list shows that material in the annual includes tractor ploughing, blacksmithing, a long article on the use of explosives in agriculture and forestry. The section "Illustrated Tractor Specifications" shows and details equipment available at publication time, including crawler and farm tracttors to items of implements fhrough ploughs. seeders and many other types of towed machinery, extending to rotary hoes and stationary engines. While the tractor illustrations are accompanied by extended technical data only basic detail accompany entries for ancilliary equipment. This magazine format book is a harvest of interesting facts and info on farm equipment and a major section relates to data from the Nebraska State University tractor test programme introduced in 1919, in which the State administration ruled that no tractor could be sold in Nebraska until it was tested at the university. This was to ensure that machines which did not perform as the manufacturer claimed were publically identified. It was not long before the tests were accepted not only in other states, but as a world standard. The article states that testing "drove the makers of over-rated and poor qualirty tractors out of business." Eleven pages of "non-current" tractor tests and specification tables are presented dating back to the early 1920s, with a number of Nebraska reports published in their original form. The feature"Illustrated Tracftor Specifications" is dominated by US machines, followed by British makes and at least one Australian model. This edition of the annual would be of particular interest to tractor collectors and restorers, as well as to the mechanically inclined lay reader. Published in 1947 by Power Farming in Australia, 251 pages (with related advertisements included in the pagination), illustrated throughout with b/w photos, drawings, technical/commercial art, diagrams etc and tables. Red card covers with black front and spine tiitles are VG with tape repaired short tears on spine extremities. spine is slightly slanted toward the right, slight bumps to front corners, text block is VG+ with no markings notes etc, few spots inside back cover with light handling marks to rear cover. Considering its age, and light magazine-type format. this copy has survived the years remarkably well. Size: 24.5 cm By 19cm. Seller Inventory # 005318
