Front panel of dustwrapper bright. ***212 mm x 138 mm. 113 pages. ***'This is a brilliant critical study of Proust, the first great European novelist of the century, and it is fitting that he should be put under the microscopic eye of Samuel Beckett, probably the outstanding writer of the present time. The dialogues with Georges Duthuit, former editor or the experimental review Transition, deal with three painters, Tal Coat, André Masson and Bram Van Vele. although each dialogue starts from a consideration of the style and intentions of the painter under discussion, their implications are much wider and deal ultimately wit the purpose and the nature of art.' ***A brilliant, at times moving account of the impact of a philosophical novelist on a philosophical poet.' Sunday Times. (Quote and review quote from rear of dustwrapper blurb).***First impression of the first thus UK edition, complete in its original second-state dustwrapper, with different jacket blurb and review quotes on the rear panel compared with the first state dustwrapper, in very nice collectable condition. First impressions of the first UK edition titles in both first and second-state dustwrappers are very hard to find now, this copy being in the second-state dustwrapper. In collector's condition.
