About this Item: The Viking Press, New York, 1943. Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Morgan Dennis (illustrator). First Edition.. This book is in just VG condition: boards are bright and unworn; the text pages are clean and unmarked; the binding and hinges are solid; there are some light dings on the spine and light chipping at the upper spine tip. The dust jacket is Near Fine: bright and unblemished. This copy is unique for two reasons:(1) The dust jacket looks better than new--it looks like it was put into careful storage 70 years ago and just rediscovered; and (2) Mr. Dennis inscribed this book: "For Margaret-/with best wishes/Morgan Dennis/'45" and also drew a delightful sketch of "The Pup" on the half-title page (see photo). Morgan Dennis (1892 - 1960) was an American illustrator and author known primarily for his paintings of dogs. Dennis was commissioned by the Black and White Scotch Whiskey Company to illustrate the "Black and White Scotties", a successful ad campaign used over many years. One of his murals, "The Dog House", is in the bar and lounge of the Sheraton Russell Hotel in New York. He also competed in art competitions at the 1936 Summer Olympics. Wesley Dennis, a noted illustrator in his own right, is Morgan Dennis's brother. Instead of a preface, Mr. Dennis writes in "The Pup Himself": "To ALL DOGS who are homeless and hungry, hoping they may find, as did Himself, a Mistress in Lady Luck". Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Author Inscription and Original Drawing. Seller Inventory # 000557
