About this Item: Bostick and Thornley, Columbia, 1949. Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Signed by the author on the title page, right under his printed name. Green cloth boards with darker green decoration and gold gilt lettering, also stained page tops and rough cut page fronts and bottom. This book has some fading on the spine and light wear at the spine ends and board tips, and a previous owner had paper clipped a newspaper clipping of one of the author's poems to the front free end paper which left a stain on the inside of the front board and the ffep, the clipping was about 2" x 3", otherwise the book is tight, square and sound. Rutedge was considered the poet laureate of his native state. We ship in cardboard boxes, and guarantee satisfaction. Signed by Author. Seller Inventory # 23604-235

Rutledge is author of dozens of books about hunting and is perhaps most well known as South Carolina's most beloved poet laureate. His former home, Hampton Plantation, is a state operated park and is open to the public. Rutledge's notable descendents to name only a couple include two former South Carolina governors (his grandfathers) and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. During his career he had conferred on him twenty honorary degrees and more than thirty medals for nature writing. His portrait hangs in the South Carolina House of Representatives.
