    Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. This rare volume of the ENGINEERING AND MINING JOURNAL was owned and signed by reknown Harvard Professor HENRY LLOYD SMYTH (H.L. Smyth)! Smyth was educated at Harvard from 1883-85 (A. B. degree in 1883 and a C. E. in 1885), was the Chief Geologist for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company from 1899-1927, he was Professor of Mining and Metallurgy at Harvard for 26 years (1900-1926), and director of the Harvard Metallurgical Laboratories from 1904 to 1926! Smyth's early career was with the US Geological Survey and he retired from teaching in 1926, and died in 1944. This volume is in excellent overall condition with clean and bright pages, countless maps, charts, statistics, photos, and period data! THIS book has Professor Smyth's PERSONAL SEAL and signature. This volume covers Vol 110, Numbers 1 through 27, (July 1921 to December 1920), bound, VERY HEAVY! Hard cover edition. 1244 pages. Dimensions: 9" by 12". 1st printing, 1920. Beige binding.
