Les 2/3 de l'ouvrage ont le texte bruni, souvent fortement. La seconde partie ne comporte pas de page de titre. Jean Scheffer (1621-1679) est né à Strasbourg, il fut accueilli en Suède par la reine Christine et nommé bibliothécaire de l'académie et obtint toujours par la protection de la reine la chaire d'éloquence et de droit public à l'université d'Upsala. Il a également écrit une histoire de la Laponie. Le De re vehiculi est l'un de ses ouvrages les plus savants, sur une matière qui ne fut pas souvent étudiée, les moyens de transport sous l'antiquité. John Scheffer (1621-1679) was born in Strasbourg, he was welcomed in Sweden by Queen Christina and appointed librarian of the academy and still got the protection of the queen chair of eloquence and public law at the University Upsala. He also wrote a history of Lapland. De re vehiculi is one of the most scholarly, on a matter which was not often studied, transportation in antiquity.
