About this Item: George W. Stewart, Publisher, Inc., 1946. Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. "Recipes Out of Bilibid" Collected by Col. H. C. Flower, U.S.A. Compiled and Tested by Dorothy Wagner. Copyright 1946. George W. Stewart, Publisher, Inc. Hardcover with Dust Jacket, 6 1/4" x 8 1/4". 81 Pages. From the dust jacket flap -- The American soldiers imprisoned and hungry for three years in notorious Bilibid turned their conversation irresistibly to the food they had once relished and were determined to enjoy again. They gave reality to their dream talk by dwelling not on the flavors but on a careful accuracy in describing the ingredients of the dishes they longed for. Colonel Halstead C. Flower collected their most cherished recipes, writing them in crowded penciled words on the inner sides of envelopes. Some recipes also tell a little history about its contributor. A source I found on-line said that "almost every man captured on Corregidor passed through this camp (Bilibid) at one time or another. Name written on front fly-leaf and fly leaves have darkening from the dust jacket flaps. Text pages are crisp and clean. Dust jacket has heavy wear including tears, creasing, and some small pieces missing. Non-smoking home. niocM. Seller Inventory # ABE-1535906049928
