About this Item: Keating, Brown and Co. / J. Shea, 1808. Hardcover. Condition: Fair. B00IRB1TFY 1808 first edition Keating, Brown and Co. (London) 5 1/4 x 8 1/8 inches tall hardbound, leather over paper-covered boards (disbound), xi, 277, [1] pp., bound with 'Remarks Occasioned by Some Passages in Doctor Milner's Tour in Ireland,' 1808 first edition J. Shea (Dublin) 48, [1] pp. Rubbed, chipped and edgeworn boards detached but present. Block split between pages 12-13 of the second work, attached only at the top cords. On front free-endpaper, armorial bookplate of Henry Hamilton (1692 - 1743), member of parliament and collector for the port of Cork, with his family motto 'nec timeo nec sperno' ('I neither fear nor despise'). Very light pencil marginalia and underlining, easily erased, throughout the volume. Occasional light creasing, soiling and foxing, mainly to prelims. An excellent candidate for rebinding. Book is preserved in a custom-made Brodart rare book box, made from archival-quality, acid-free, lignin-free, 20-point light tan folder stock with a 3% calcium carbonate buffer, securely held in place by Velcro buttons, with title page reproduced on front cover of box, title on the spine of the box. ~KKK~ John Milner (1752 - 1826) was an English Roman Catholic bishop and controversialist who served as the Vicar Apostolic of the Midland District from 1803 to 1826.
