The Commissioners' report was discussed in Parliament on 30 March 1860. Of the £8,050 spent during the election by the Conservative and Liberal candidates, '£6,900 had been spent for purposes of corruption; £3,500 of it had been laid out in direct bribery, and £3,400 for other matters closely connected with illegal and corrupt practices'.
