First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. First Thus. Original catalogue from what world libraries site determines is 1938. Pictorial orange and black 4to wraps. (160pp). Illus. Index. This company went out of business in the modern era, but only one copy of this catalogue shows up in world libraries, in the Spokane Library. Page after pages of b/w depictions of supplies for restaurants, soda fountains, bars. Also Matthews & Kerr were "manufacturers" (perhaps more accurately distributors (of) coffees, teas, spices, extracts, baking powders, and syrups. I found simply amazing the appliances, devices, and tools available for all these kinds of businesses, some of which, like old time soda fountains, are sparsely located in our cities and towns. Tipped in is a printed orange slip stating that "No prices are quoted with this catalog" and the reasons why. Along with the images of hundreds if not thousands of items sold by this company are mainly size descriptions of each one. A rare catalogue. Top corner of front cover with small triangular crease, else fine.

Add to basketFor Pharmacy, Hirst's restaurant in Notting Hill Gate in the late 1990s, Hirst himself designed wallpaper based on the pharmaceutical giant Merck's handbook endpapers, showing pills and describing them. Merck's objected, meaning Hirst withdrawing it as an artwork of wallpaper but had already plastered the restaurant with silver and gold versions, which remained. The piece for sale, protected by UV perspex, has small rips and damage, as well as thin pieces of plaster where the sheet was scraped from the wall of the restaurant. Later, for the Sotheby sale in 2004, limited editions of the wallpaper were produced. This, the original, is rare thus. Accompanied by the original Sotheby's catalogue from the Damien Hirst Pharmacy Auction in 2004. A near fine book complete with the full set of stickers intact. In this auction, Hirst sold the art work effects from the Pharmacy Bar and Restaurant in Notting Hill, London; a symbol of Cool Britannia in the 90s. Rare.
