About this Item: Het Rijngoud is the prelude to Richard Wagner's (1813-1883) trilogy 'Der Ring des Nibelungen'. That means that this book is issued by Holkema en Warendorf as part one of four books. The book's illustrations are a beautiful example of Arthur Rackham's (1867-1939) Germanic artwork. The dark earth tones and dynamic lines emphasize the obscure sense of Wagner's opera. Although this style worked perfectly for the Germanic themed stories, it also worked for more 'colorful' stories like Alice in Wonderland and Aesop's fables. B1610 (cat. 38).
