About this Item: W.Harrison, 1892. Blue Boards. Condition: Fair. Single volume contains parts I and II. Blue cloth binding retains good deep colour and crisp tooled gilt decoration, but does have water damage along full fore edge of front board and aproximately 1/4th of rear board. Boards are well attached to block and otherwise have only minor shelf wear. The block itself has not been water damaged and has crisp, flat, tightly bound pages throughout. End papers have dense foxing, but it's much lighter elsewhere with many pages being entirely clear. Many attactive engravings and plates. Tidy owner's ink inscription to ffep gifting the book, dated 1914, and a patch of ink splatter to the fore edge of block, but otherwise the pages are clean. Two parts bound as one - Part I. viii+226pp. Part II. xxxvi+316pp. Appendix xxxii, followed by Index of Names and Places covering 349pp-363pp, then List of Subscribers. Very well illustrated with plates and illustrations in text. Bound in original navy cloth with black and bright gilt titles, gilt decoration just a little rubbed and marked on edges. Top-edge-gilt. Foxing to fore-edge and scattered on some pages internally, but mainly clean. Some newspaper cuttings are tipped-in, relating to the late Mr R.M. Bowman, Surgeon. Also cuttings affixed to rear endpaper. Several loose newspaper cuttings are enclosed - all a little foxed - Ripon Minster, Plan of Ripon Cathedral, Ancient Seal of the Collegiate Church of Ripon, Historical Ripon Hornblower on duty, quaint Corbals at Ripon Cathedral, Saxon Crypt. Also enclosed is a folding Bill headed Fountains Abbey from D'Arcy Ferrers, Maisterof ye Revells, advertising the events to be held in August 1886. Includes "Ancient Ripon: an Historical Sketch" by Rev. W. C. Lukis, and "Robin Hood and Ye Curtall Fryer: An Open-Air Play", by Augustin Dawtrey. Burgundy cloth covered boards, leather spine with 5 raised bands and title label, ornate gilt titles and borders. Slightly scuffed and edgeworn, spine ends ragged and split. Inner hinges split but binding secure. Aeg, marbled eps. Scattered foxing, two neat ink family genograms on one of back feps; otherwise internally unmarked. x, viii, 226, [ii], xxxvi, 3362, [14] pp. 16 b&w plates plus many smaller illus; text printed in red borders.
