Exquisitely bound in brown leather with fiveraised bands along spine, gilt titles and intricate gilt decorations in compartments. Further border gilt decorations around edges of front and back boards, and more elaborately on the inside of each board, where the leather is contrastingly dyed green in the centre. Cream silk end papers. Contents unmarked, frontispieces and illustrations with captioned tissue guards. A truly beautiful set. Very little wear externally, one or two volumes have rough patch on the very bottom edge of the spine piece. There is even gilt decoration to the uppermost and lowermost edges of the spines.
