About this Item: Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, 1984. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good+. Illustrated by N. C. Wyeth (illustrator). 1st Thus; Sixth Printing. Very light edge wear to DJ, sun-faded on DJ spine, some discoloration of DJ flaps. Some soil base of page 239 ; A bright, solid book, dustjacket in Mylar, unclipped. Decorative endpapers. This edition of the classic story is distinguished by the colour plates of artwork by artist and book illustrator N.C. Wyeth, known for his illustrations of adventure tales for older children. The illustrations are as shown in the original edition. This edition has deckled fore edges ; Colour Illustrations; 8.80 X 7.20 X 1.70 inches; 362 pages; A modern reprint of the classic novel, beautiful copies of the N. C. Wyeth. "Recounts the life and adventures of Robin Hood, who, with his band of followers, lived as an outlaw in Sherwood Forest dedicated to fight against tyranny. This is Paul Creswick's able retelling of the Robin Hood myth. The Robin Hood narrative first surfaced as a short mention in Piers Plowman, and accreted details through folk-tales, ballad, literature, and of course, cinema. Like other English literary productions such as King Arthur or Sherlock Holmes, the fact that Robin Hood is a fiction is almost irrelevant; people want to believe that he was an actual historical personage. Creswick's version of this tale brings it to life. The whole story of Robin Hood's life, not just his adventures in the woods. If you think it's going slowly in the beginning, just wait. Creswick creates a clear picture and includes all the major events of Robin Hoods life.". Seller Inventory # 17446

About this Item: David McKay Publisher, Philadelphia, 1917. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Illustrated by N.C. Wyeth (illustrator). 1st Edition. First edition dated MCMXVII (1917) to title page; no later dates or printings mentioned. In full ORIGINAL dust jacket. Printed jackets were apparently enough of an innovation in 1917 that McKay simply left flaps and rear panel blank. Thus, unclipped front flap does not bear and has never born a price. The lovely color Wyeth frontispiece (the frontispiece IS the title page, actually) and 8 color plates are all firmly in place. There are NO tissue guards. This book will close its own text block, shows NO rub to corners, hinges are great. Light dampstain to head of DJ spine only, no musty smell, not ex-library, no previous owner markings. Green topstain. (Although McKay's 1928, 1937, and 1947 publisher's statements, per Zempel & Verkler, were "There isn't any way you could identify the first editions of our books," some contend the true 1917 first printing, first state, of this title must have tissue guards to plates, and Top Edges Gilt, unlike this copy, of which the top edge is stained green.) Original jacket is chipped to edges and is missing top 1/4-inch of spine. 362 pp. Reduced from $470. Seller Inventory # 003350
