First Edition
Octavo, pp. [1-5] 6-146 [147-150: ads], inserted frontispiece and twenty other illustrations in the text by Miss E. D. Hale, original brown cloth, front panel stamped in red and black, slate coated endpapers. First edition. Ten legends retold by the author, with an emphasis on religious miracles. This publisher produced mainly nonfiction, with an emphasis on fishing; their fiction titles all tend to be quite scarce. They published three of Vernon Lee's earliest books, including TUSCAN FAIRY TALES (advertised in the rear of the present volume). Not in Bleiler (1948; 1978) or Reginald (1979; 1992). Armorial bookplate affixed to front paste-down. Some uniform light dust soiling to cloth, a very good copy. A nice copy of an attractive book. (#116560).
