As per the title page, this volume was meant to be accompanied by a facsimile presentation of the first edition of the Fitzgerald translation, which is not present with this copy. Signed.

Inscribed by Eben Francis Thompson to Charles Rockwell Lanman, professor of Sanskrit studies at Harvard University. A verse translation from the Persian original of Omar Khayyam. Eben Francis Thompson, a Worcester lawyer, was encouraged by his friend, Nathan Haskell Dole, to learn Persian in order to translate the Rubaiyat into verse. This edition prints Fitzgerald's translation, the Persian original and Thompson's verse translation. A very good copy with some light wear to the covers, some light soiling to the white cloth spine and heavy fading to the spine label. The text is very good with some scattered light foxing. A new spine label is laid down on the rear inside cover. Inscribed by Author(s).

Attractive silver Illustrated d/w and paterned endpaper with Arabic lettering No date circa 1940s. Signed on the front endpaper 'Q. Rado 1945' in exactly the same handwring as Rado has signed his drawings. Possibly he was a Quentin as well as an Anthony. Very little is known of him apart from and illustrator of Omar Khayyam and Alice in Wonderland. Very good indeed in somewhat chipped, very good minus dust jacket, with some loss and creasing at spine ends and corners. Front panel of jacket in good order showing a minaret. Signedes.

The Rubáiyát has 138 pages comprising 75 quatrains enriched with 11 full-page colour plates, line drawings, and decorations by Iranian artist Sarkis Katchadourian. Sun fading to the edges to the boards, plate removed from the front free end paper leaving old dry shadow marks. SIGNED by the illustrator to the front free end paper 'To my very dear friends Mr and Mrs P. Jemidlian, with best wishes and love - Vavu Sarkis Katchadourian, 11 August, 1954, New York.' The suede with a tear about 1 1/2 inches long at the top of the spine, somewhat faded, and with some edgewear; the internals Fine and uncut, but the sewing quite fragile; housed in a cloth clamshell box on which the embossed illustration of the front cover has been reproduced as a label.
