Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: VG-. Grooms, Red (illustrator). First Edition First Printing. Fold-out, pop-up book recreates Grooms' only non-urban "sculpto-pictoramas,'' or walk-through artworks, that he is famous for. Graphically "heir to the illustrated tradition of American Scene painting of the 1920s-1930s," "Ruckus Rodeo: celebrates circuses, carnivals, country western music, cowboys & cowgirls, bucking broncos, & state fairs in 6 pop-up panels. Pop-ups in 5 of the 6 panels are perfect & function fine; the bucking cowboy one has become detached, as has his hat from his hand, but both pieces are still there--nothing missing. Published in conjunction with a 1987 exhibition of Grooms' work at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Includes a 7-page essay on Grooms by curator Barbara Haskell. Tri-fold hardcover is in VG- condition: generally very clean, binding straight & tight, colors bright, pages bright & unmarked. Flaws: a piece of 1 out of 6 pop-ups is torn & does not function, but the torn-off pieces are present. General rubbing/scuffing to extremities, remains of old price sticker inside. Corners of front covers heavily bumped & rubbed. Our photos depict the EXACT book you will receive from us--never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
