About this Item: John B. Alden, Publisher, 1886. Cloth. Condition: Very Good -. Dust Jacket Condition: No Jacket As Issued. First American Edition. The History of Russia: From the Earliest Times To 1877(in Two Volumes) by Alfred Rambaud(Translated by Leonora B. Lang) was published by John B. Alden, Publisher, in 1886. Neither book is an ex-library copy, and both volumes are in VG- condition. For age 125, both books are in rather remarkable shape, but for some modest yellowing of the pages of the texts, and the presence of the number "55" in the upper left corner of the front paste down page of Volume 1 and the number "56" in the same corner of the corresponding page of Volume 2(the numbers are an inch high, orange in color, and so neatly constructed they appear to have been made with a stencil). Volume 1, spanning 309 pages, begins with Chapter One, "Geography of Russia", and concludes with Chapter 22, "Peter the Great: Early Years(1682-1709)". Volume 2, which runs to 305 pages, begins with Chapter 1, "Peter the Great: Struggle with Charles XII(1700-1709)", and concludes with Chapter 15, "Alexander II(1855-1877)". Volume 2 of this two-book offering also includes Observations(regarding aspects of text, by author), Bibliographical Notes, Table of Measures, Weights, Etc., and Index(for both volumes). There are, combining both volumes, a total of 37 black and white Illustrations/Drawings(exquisitely done, for the most part), 4 Maps(all in full color, all very nicely executed), and 4 Genealogical Tables. Both volumes also offer Tables of Contents, Lists of Illustrations, Maps, and Genealogical Tables. This is a gorgeous set, and COMPLETE in two volumes, Reader! Thank you very much!!.
