First edition, later issue of King's second novel, a modern retelling of Bram Stoker's Dracula. This copy lacks the first edition statement on the copyright page, indicating a later printing, and has gutter code of Q41 present on page 439, in a second (corrected) state jacket, with Father Callahan on inner flap and price of $7.95. A pleasing copy of King's second major novel, his follow up to Carrie, and reportedly the author's favorite out of all his novels, nominated for the World Fantasy Award in 1976 and the Locus Award for the All Time Best Fantasy Novel in 1987. The book is better than VG, with upper corners lightly bumped, with a few small patches of discoloration to spine; spine heel gently crimped, with a small patch of discoloration to upper rear board; very faint soiling to page ends, but free of bookplates or stamps and clean and bright internally. The jacket is also about VG, with a vertical crease to spine, which appears as a dark vertical streak (see photo); spine tips and upper front corner gently creased and chafed, with some rubbing to jacket flap folds and some light soiling to rear panel; a small chip to lower front jacket flap and another to upper front spine joint, but a sound clean copy overall, with price of $7.95 intact. All first edition issue points are present: 'First Edition' on the copyright page and 'Q37' gutter code on the last page as called for. Condition: near fine. Clean boards without bumping. Internally clean, one neat previous owner's name on the ffep to top right the corner. Title lettering on the spine are still vibrant. Some rubbing to the top of the thin black clot. The dust jacket has minor edge wear only and is in great shape. Salem's Lot, Stephen King's second novel, had a print run of 20,000 copies only. The book was nominated for the 'World Fantasy Award' in 1976 and the Locus Award for all-time best fantasy novel. First edition (first edition stated; with code Q37 in the gutter of page 439, indicating the first printing). This is a good only copy, with an old dampstain at the base of the spine (visible as slightly wavy pages); There is also a spot on the rear board, some surface scarring to the boards, and wear to the spine ends. This copy has the second issue, price-clipped dust jacket, with the "Father Cody" error on the front flap; it should read "Father Callahan." The new price is also clipped (there are just a few known copies of the first issue dust jacket, which had the incorrect price). The jacket has a number of tears but is largely complete, without any significant chips. An inscribed title page to a paperback issue of the novel, signed by Stephen King, is laid in. From the collection of Tom Garner in his distinctive black-cloth clamshell box. In all, not the greatest copy but not exorbitantly priced, either.

Hardcover. First Edition. The deluxe issue of Centipede Press's inaugural publication, bound in full goatskin with deckle-edged paper and signed by both King and photographer Jerry Uelsmann. This Roman-numeraled edition, limited to 25 copies, 15 of which were for sale, is one of the smallest issues of any Stephen King limited edition. In addition to the novel's text, it includes both related short stories ("Jerusalem's Lot" and "One for the Road"), fifty pages of deleted scenes, and a new afterword. The massive volume features Uelsmann's surreal photographs reproduced in 300-line duotone, including one mounted to the front board. 566 pages and over 13 inches tall. A fine copy in a somewhat spine-faded folding clamshell box (the black cloth being notably light sensitive). Signed by King and Uelsmann on colophon. Provenance: Tom Garner collection, with original order confirmation letter and two production update printouts laid in.

Doubleday is the publisher which launched Stephen King's long, tremendously successful and prolific career. No mention of any King titles other than Carrie and Salem's Lot on DJ. Book is tight. Binding and hinges are strong. Gilt is bright and unrubbed. Red paper boards are bright and clean. Faint shallow stain along bottom panel edges. Light shelf-rub at base on black binding. Pages lay tight and undisturbed; seemingly unread. FFEP corner has previous owners names neatly written in ink. DJ in same design and artwork as the first printing. DJ is about fine; only flaw is some sunning to red hue on the title on the spine. An early copy of Stephen King's second title and arguably most difficult title. Considering Stephen King no longer signs backlog, a signed copy of his most difficult title speaks for itself. The first American edition is said to have a print run of 20,000 copies, while the general consensus is that the British consisted of less than 1,000, with many of those copies going to libraries.
