Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. New York: Doubleday, 1975. 8vo, 439 p., publisher's 1/4 black cloth over orange boards. First edition, later issue of King's second novel, a modern retelling of Bram Stoker's Dracula. This copy lacks the first edition statement on the copyright page, indicating a later printing, and has gutter code of Q41 present on page 439, in a second (corrected) state jacket, with Father Callahan on inner flap and price of $7.95. A pleasing copy of King's second major novel, his follow up to Carrie, and reportedly the author's favorite out of all his novels, nominated for the World Fantasy Award in 1976 and the Locus Award for the All Time Best Fantasy Novel in 1987. The book is better than VG, with upper corners lightly bumped, with a few small patches of discoloration to spine; spine heel gently crimped, with a small patch of discoloration to upper rear board; very faint soiling to page ends, but free of bookplates or stamps and clean and bright internally. The jacket is also about VG, with a vertical crease to spine, which appears as a dark vertical streak (see photo); spine tips and upper front corner gently creased and chafed, with some rubbing to jacket flap folds and some light soiling to rear panel; a small chip to lower front jacket flap and another to upper front spine joint, but a sound clean copy overall, with price of $7.95 intact. This book has been SIGNED and dated on the front endpaper in the year following publication. Flat signed copies of this title are uncommon. Signed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First Edition. Stephen King's second book. First edition (first edition stated; with code Q37 in the gutter of page 439, indicating the first printing). This is a good only copy, with an old dampstain at the base of the spine (visible as slightly wavy pages); There is also a spot on the rear board, some surface scarring to the boards, and wear to the spine ends. This copy has the second issue, price-clipped dust jacket, with the "Father Cody" error on the front flap; it should read "Father Callahan." The new price is also clipped (there are just a few known copies of the first issue dust jacket, which had the incorrect price). The jacket has a number of tears but is largely complete, without any significant chips. An inscribed title page to a paperback issue of the novel, signed by Stephen King, is laid in. From the collection of Tom Garner in his distinctive black-cloth clamshell box. In all, not the greatest copy but not exorbitantly priced, either.

A stunning collection of the first five Stephen King books made even more special by the display in the limited edition cases with original artwork. Doubleday is the publisher which launched Stephen King's long, tremendously successful and prolific career. No other writer has had a greater impact on popular culture than Stephen King with most of his stories having been adapted into TV-series or films. From the 1980s onwards his books typically went into print runs of hundreds of thousands if not millions, but the Doubleday first edition books will always remain highly coveted and valuable due to their scarcity, popularity and quality. If one had to choose a handful of King's books into any collection these five would be the top choice. We have more images upon request. First and Fine. Signed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Christensen, Dave (Jacket Illustration) (illustrator). First Edition. Beautifully signed on custom SK bookplate at front endpaper: "Stephen King". Rare early signature on original SK bookplate features Stephen King printed in bold capital letter font seen on early SK novels with thatched border. Very attractive. First edition stated, code Q37 at page 439. First edition dust wrapper with Father Cody error as the bad priest; a misprint, as Callahan was the "bad priest." Blood red boards, black cloth spine wrap, gilt spine titles, moderate shelf wear, clean. Deckled pages very good; no writing. Light page ripple to first few pages. Bind fine, square; hinges intact. Original dust wrapper, some edge wear, rub, adhesive, crease; clipped, protected in fine clear sleeve. Rare very good first printing in solid first state wrapper with Cody error. One of Stephen King's true classics, where he offers an interpretation of Bram Stoker's Dracula. In SK's second published novel he describes Salem's Lot as a town first touched by an evil and horrific murder-suicide involving a prominent citizen - and former hitman - named Hubie Marston. And, now overlooked by this empty and terrible house. The village has its collection of small-town secrets and moral corruptions, though, and is finally invaded by a Vampiric plague, starting with the shadowy new owner of the Marston House, Richard Straker, and his familiar, Kurt Barlow. Another new resident, writer Ben Mears who grew up in the town, joins with a local doctor, a teacher, and young Mark Petrie to fight against the town's demise. Salem's Lot knew darkness and the awful, heavy silence of terrifying images grotesquely dancing in and out of the shadows. Stark, white faces, huge, glowing eyes and long, gnarled hands that reached out with lustful insistence. The paralyzing fear of a diabolical corruption and hideous peril more dreadful than death. But, no one in Salem's Lot dared to speak of the high, sweet, evil laughter of a child, and the terrible sucking sounds. Apprx. 5 3/4" x 8 1/2" design. 439 pages. Insured post. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Signed by Author. Book.
