subscription item, publisher's dummy] The Home Treasury: Morrison, Professor D.

About this Item: no publisher, no place, 1890. Hardcover. Random, disconnected pages sampled from a finished product (that we guess would run over 650p.), the item in hand totalling perhaps 100p. only; hardbound in thick 10.5x7.5 inch skyblue cloth boards decorated gilt and black, with faux-marbled endpapers (how cheap can you get?) and genuine marbling to textblock edges. Music notation and lyrics occupy most of the samples, with a dozen or so spot-colored portraits of composers and performers scattered amongst. In the back find a Prospectus on tinted stock followed by lined blanks for use by the salesman, these remaining entirely blank. Aside from a mildly soiled spine and hints of soil elsewhere on the cloth boards, quite a bright cheerful item. Seller Inventory # 183543

This salesman's dummy contains the frontispiece, the foreword by Major General A.W. Greely, table of contents, list of illustrations, samples of the text and illustrations (primarily photographs, and the subscription forms. The silver and black printing on the back cover is presumably the sample of the proposed spine title, the spine of the salesman's dummy not being wide enough to accomodate it.There is no title page, presumably because it was going to be issued by several publishers; the title is taken from the cover. In Good Condition: cover rubbed and lightly soiled; pastedown is rubbed, with small chip out of left side; corners bumped; foxing and staining on a few pages; otherwise pages and illustrations are clean.
