About this Item: American Library Association, 1967. Pamphlet. Condition: Fine. First Edition, First Printing. This is an exceptionally rare pamphlet cowritten by activist librarian Morris and legendary Czech illustrator Sasek, inscribed by Morris inside front cover. Adapted from Sasek's This Is San Francisco picture book, this pamphlet was given to attendees of the American Library Association conference of 1967 in San Francisco. Morris was evidently in attendance of the conference, as her inscription references "warmest memories of ALA." At the time of this listing, there were no other copies of this available for sale online, and no one that I've spoken with has come across a signed copy at all. Of the two contributors, Sasek was the more known as an award-winning illustrator of the "This Is." series of picture books about cities around the world. Morris was a very influential librarian and educator best known for her advocacy work in children's literature. She helped establish the Coretta Scott King Award and was its first chairperson. Morris was also an influential civil rights activist. This one-of-a-kind signed pamphlet would make a fine addition to any collection of Sasek's books, children's literature, library history, or civil rights ephemera.
