About this Item: Brepols Publishers 0. Hardcover. Condition: Verlagsfrisch New copy. Verlagsfrisch New copy Corpus Christianorum Corpus Christianorum Continuatio Mediaevalis (CCCM 89B) Guillelmus a Sancto Theodorico Opera omnia VI Vita prima Sancti Bernardi - Liber primus. Accedunt Libri II-V. Fragmenta Gaufridi. P. Verdeyen, C. Vande Veire (eds.) 342 p., 2 colour ill., 155 x 245 mm, 2011 ISBN: 978-2-503-53199-1 Languages: Latin, French Hardback The publication is available. (.) freilich in philologisch qualitätvoller Weise." About this Item: Brepols Publishers 0. Softcover. Condition: Verlagsfrisch New copy. Verlagsfrisch New copy Sancti Bernardi Opera (SBO 9) Index Biblicus in Opera Omnia S. Bernardi G. Hendrix 837 p., 210 x 270 mm, 1998 ISBN: 978-2-503-50744-6 Languages: Latin Paperback The publication is available. Retail price: EUR 197,08 The Benedictine scholar Jean Leclercq, the outstanding authority on research into Cistercian thought and culture, especially the works of Bernard of Clairvaux, has pleaded since 1947 for an index of biblical citations from the complete works of this author. The Sancti Bernardi Opera which he published together with C.H. Talbot and H.-M. Rochais between 1957 and 1977 has never got this basic tool for which Dom Leclercq has argued on so many occasions. Now, more than twenty years after the completion of the edition, scholars finally have at their disposal a comprehensive index of biblical quotations as presented in the edition of Bernard's authentic works. The Index biblicus also contains quotations from the Parabolae which have been published separately by H.-M. Rochais (Analecta S.O.C.; Cîteaux. Commentarii Cistercienses 1962). The Index biblicus as here constituted, is divided into three parts: Biblia sacra, the critical edition of Leclercq-Talbot-Rochais, and the edition by Mabillon in the Patrologia Latina. The first part (called Biblia sacra) refers to the different books, chapters and verses of the Vulgate Bible, as given in the apparatus of the critical edition, and has been corrected where necessary. In this way the Index biblicus contains 34,569 quotations. A supplementary column has been added to indicate where Bernard does not quote from the Vulgate Bible. The second set of references is bipartite, each part consisting of three columns: the first set refers to the volume, page and line of the critical edition itself; the second refers to the works of Bernard themselves and their subdivisions. The third and final part refers to the subdivision of Mabillon's edition as reproduced in the Patrologia Latina (since Migne's reprint was widely quoted until the sixties, even the seventies). Buch. About this Item: Apud Angelum Pasinellum, in via Mercatoria, 1727. Hardcover. Condition: Good. B00JEBIX2S In Latin. 1726-27 Apud Angelum Pasinellum (Venice, Italy) three massive 10 3/4 x 16 inches tall hardbounds, paper-covered boards over brown leather spines, six raised bands and gilt lettering to each spine, title pages in red and black, many engraved initials, printer's devices and other engravings, text in two columns per page with pagination by column, V1: [60] dedication, preface, index, 354 [708 numbered columns], 58 [cxvi numbered columns] notes; V2: [14], 438 [876 numbered columns], 21 [xlii numbered columns]; V3: [2] preface and table of contents, 747 [1493 numbered columns], 26 [lii numbered columns] notes pp. [NOTE that this is a large and heavy set, and the buyer will incur additional postage charges, especially for overseas or rush delivery. Please inquire for exact charges; M-Bag service is available for most overseas orders to reduce cost.] The half-title, at the beginning of Volume 1, reads: 'Sancti Bernardi Abbatis Primi Clarae-Vallensis Opera Omnia Cum Genuina, Tum Spuria, Dubiaque, Sex Tomis in Triplici Volumine Comprehensa,' or, roughly, The Works of Saint Bernard, Abbot of Clairvaux, First the Genuine, and Then the Spurious Works, Published Posthumously [editor Jean Mabillon died in 1707], Six Books in Three Volumes, Complete. A scarce set, particularly since it includes the uniformly-bound Volume 3, the 'Opera supposititia et aliena,' i.e., the works editor Jean Mabillon identified as spurious. The gilt spine titles for volumes 1-2 read 'Opera Gunuina' (probably should be 'Genuina'), and for volume 3, reads 'Opera Supposititia.' Externally, the matched set gives a splendid shelf appearance, with moderate rubbing, bumping to tips and edgewear, but all the bindings quite solid. Some sporadic foxing and minor dampstaining to margins throughout. London Order of St. Mary's stamp to half title and title pages of all three volumes. Dampstaining and foxing to margins of title pages of volumes 1-2. Volume 3 title page is quite soiled, stained, darkened with age, and tattered around all three edges, with loss to the lower margin toward the fore edge, but still quite readable. Volume 3 has a number of instances of age-darkening of select pages, presumably because the volume was left open and exposed to light, and several instances of dampstaining, especially in the last 20 or so pages of the volume. Despite these defects, an outstanding set, a complete copy of Jean Mabillon's critical edition of the works of St. Bernard. The first critical edition of works was published in 1508 by A. Brochard in Paris. The second, by Jacob Merlo Horstius, was revised and enlarged by Mabillon in 1687, and further revised and expanded in 1690 and 1719, leading to the Venetian printing offered here. ~LR1~ Bernard of Clairvaux, O.Cist (1090-1153) was a French abbot and the primary builder of the reforming Cistercian order. The 'Divine Comedy' places Bernard as the last guide for Dante, as he travels through the Empyrean (Paradiso, cantos XXXI-XXXIII). Dante's choice appears to be based on Bernard's contemplative mysticism, his devotion to Mary and his reputation for eloquence. St. Bernard was named a Doctor of the Church in 1830. At the 800th anniversary of his death, Pope Pius XII issued an encyclical on Bernard, 'Doctor Mellifluus,' in which he labeled him 'The Last of the Fathers.' Bernard did not reject human philosophy which is genuine philosophy, which leads to God; he differentiates between different kinds of knowledge, the highest being theological. Three central elements of Bernard's Mariology are how he explained the virginity of Mary, the 'Star of the Sea,' how the faithful should pray on the Virgin Mary, and how he relied on the Virgin Mary as Mediatrix. The full title for volume 3 is: 'Sancti Bernardi Abbatis Primi Clarae-Vallensis Opera Supposititia Videlicet et Aliena, Cum Ejus Vita & Miraculis, Duobus Posterioribus Tomis V. VI. Comprehensa.' About the editor: Dom Jean Mabillon, O.S.B., (1632-1707) was a French B. Seller Inventory # LR1-0441-462
