1st ed. Hardback quarto, no jacket, very good condition, pictorial green cover, illustrated endpapers, black & white text-photos, glossy paper, small scuff top spine, top corner tip front cover little bumped, minor edgewear, owner name & address label spine & front free flyleaf. 416 pp. (This copy: Hardcover edition, Access Press, 1997, which has the same ISBN as the paperback edition of 1998.) This book celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the Special Air Service Regiment (SAS), undertaken by the National Secretariat of the Australian Special Air Force Association. The book details, in over 1000 captioned pictures, the day to day life of the SAS soldier, at home in Australia and on overseas service in Vietnam, the Himalayas and elsewhere. The first chapter shows the history of the unit. The last chapter is about the Blackhawk tragedy of 1996 in Somalia. This first edition, edited by M. J. Malone, is the result of years of research and collection. Published in a limited edition of 1500 copies. The editor is a former SAS officer, holder of the Order of Australia Medal (OAM), and now a rare book dealer. (The former owner, Jack Fletcher of Bungendore, was a senior SAS officer. His written details are on the front free flyleaf & spine label.).
