About this Item: Telegraph Books, 1972. Brossura. Condition: buono. prima edizione. Brigid ¿Polk¿ Berlin (b. 1939) was a close companion of Andy Warhol and a mainstay at his Factory. This book is a collection of the scars of Andy Warhol, John Giorno, Patti Smith, Rene Ricard, Henry Gibson, Viva, Gerard Malanga, and many others. The illustrations included are facsimiles from the notebook she nearly constantly carried. She would ask those she met to describe their scars in they hand in this notebook alongside ink impressions of their scars, similar to fingerprints. These ink impressions with short personal anecdotes sometimes accompanied by drawings are presented here, with dates of the incidents. The stories of the scars range from light hearted accidents to near brushes with death to childhood trauma. Seller Inventory # 000047

About this Item: Telegraph Books, Philadelphia, PA, 1972. Illustrated Wrappers. Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. np (84pp), profusely illustrated in b&w. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. Poor little rich girl Brigid "Polk" Berlin was well-known in the sixties New York social scene as Andy Warhol's confidant, and a mainstay of his Factory entourage. She was then rarely without her blank book in which she requested those around her to make ink impressions - in the same way that fingerprints are taken - of the scars on their bodies. Published in 1972, this quirky tome is a compilation of these scars along with in many cases accompanying explanations of their origin from the likes of sister Richie Berlin, Brice Marden, Bill Berkson, Lillian Roxon, Taylor Mead, Genevieve Waite, Gerard Malanga, John Giorno, Buddy Wirtschafter, Rene Ricard, Dotson Rader, Rita Donagh, Charles Rydell, superstar Viva!, Henry Gibson, Charlotte Moorman, Peter Beard, Helio Oiticica, Patti Smith, and many, many others. A most handsome example of this uncommon item additionally SIGNED "Brigid Polk" in black ink on the title page showing just a bit of typical age toning to its white wrappers. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase. Signed by the Author.
