Hardcover. Condition: Good. Will James (illustrator). 1st Edition. The cover has dark orange cloth with brown lettering. Color frontispiece; color frontispiece; 43 b/w illustrations. The spine strip has faded to brown. Two ends of the text block have a few stains, up to 1/8 in. The endpapers have darkened, and even more so along the fold. Pages ii-v and the frontispiece have darkened on the inside margins, presumably caused by the binder's glue. A portion of the top and bottom margins of the frontispiece and the title page have stains. A 1/4 in. stain is on the front blank page and the front free endpaper. Scans e-mailed upon request.

The only Scribner edition (later reprinted by others). A sturdy reading copy.
