November 1892 in Sankt Petersburg; 21. April 1990 in Paris) war Illustrator, Bühnenbildner und Modedesigner. Mit seinen Illustrationen und Modekreationen ist Erté einer der Hauptvertreter des Art Deco. Sein Stil ist geprägt vom synthetischen Kubismus, in Verbindung mit einem exotischen Dekorativismus. Erté lernte Zeichnen bei Privatlehrern in St. Petersburg und an der Pariser Kunstakademie Julian. Schon 1912-14 zeichnete Erté für Paul Poiret in Paris, dessen Modelle für Presse und Kundinnen. Seit 1915 veröffentlichte das Modemagazin Harper's Bazaar seine Zeichnungen. 1924-1937 stand er unter Exklusivvertrag bei Harper's Bazaar und gestaltete die Titelseiten sowie Modeillustrationen.
