"Desmond and Joanna were married in April 1940, Tuna launched in May. Desmond eventually became Commander of the submarine. [. . .] Tuna's first successes were in the Bay of Biscay on two days of Septemebr when two merchant vessels were sunk. By December Tuna had had her first altercation with a U-boat, which escaped by using superior speed. In July 1941 Tuna, mistaken for enemy, was bombed by the R.A.F., but did not sustain damage. Among the many patrols off the coast of Norway during 1942 Tuna once found the German cruiser Prinz Euygen but was unable to bring her torpedoes to bear on this fast 23 knot target. An unusual complement involved two officers and ten other ranks, with six canoes, numerous limpet mines and other equipment to be landed off the entrance to the Gironde, where the group would paddle upriver and attack ships lying in Bordeaux and Bassens. The exploits of the Royal Marines of this group became the storyline for Cockleshell Heroes, a wartime feature film." - from dust-jacket blurb. Military history, World War Two.
