Paper covers, 101 pages : illustrations (some color). In very good condition. Illustrated paper covers have light bumping and creasing to edges and corners and light overall scuffing, aging and soiling. Binding tight. Pages lightly aged but otherwise clean and unmarked. Not Ex-library. No remainder marks. [From page 100] This exhibition was assembled to show the character and scope of Northwest Coast Indian art which is indigenous to this region and regarded as an important cultural asset. Since it was part of a form of society which is foreign to the cultural heritage of the western world, the catalog as well as the arrangement of the exhibition were designed to create a background for better understanding of its intent and significance. The display starts with a section titled "The Anatomy of the Art" where the materials are described and their primary motifs of the art are shown in their simpler forms . . Under the heading "Historical Perspective" a number of unique and rare pieces dating to the late 18th century have been collected. Some of these are loaned by museums in Europe and others are from the old established museums of New England seaports.
