When Richard Papen joins an elite group of clever misfits at his New England college, it seems he can finally become the person he wants to be. But the moral boundaries he will cross with his new friends - and the deaths they are responsible for - will change all of their lives forever. The Secret History recounts the terrible price we pay for mistakes made on the dark journey to adulthood. Hardcover. Condition: Very Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. Mixed 1st/BCE Edition. Alfred A. Knopf, Inc., A Borzoi Book, New York, New York, U.S.A., 1992. "Second Printing Before Publication" (stated) of a mixed 1st/Book Club Edition. This copy of the second printing before publication has the boards and dust jacket of the bce. Very Fine in an As New Dust Jacket. Appears Unread. The Text Block is clean, white, tight, straight and square with no markings of any kind. The Binding is black quarter cloth to black boards, colors uniform throughout, with bright gilt title, etc., to spine, unmarked white endpapers, and all corners square and sharp. The pictorial Dust Jacket is fully intact and flawless. See photos. 524 pages. 5 3/4" x 9 1/2". Book First Edition
First U.K. edition, first printing, with the full number line to the copyright page. The book is firmly and squarely bound in black cloth, lettered in gilt to the spine, the corners and spine ends are very lightly bumped. The text block is a little toned with some minor dusty marks. The dust jacket, atmospherically illustrated with the reproduction of Clarence White's 'Faun and Girl', is the original and not price clipped, it is lightly rubbed to the edges, with very slight lifting of the upper coating to the spine ends. The U.K. hardback first edition is something of a rarity, despite being produced to a much better standard than the majority of British books in the 1990s, as most copies seem to have been destined for libraries and unsurprisingly read to destruction. This is a remarkably well preserved example and looks to be little read.
