Vol. II is devoted to his later writings about the nervous system and speech; significant papers and lectures on general neurgological subjects; and the only complete listing of Jackson's works. Much of the information in these 2 volumes has been previously published in medical hournals and he 'Brain'. Most of Jackson's writing were written in the late 1800's.Published in the U.S in 1958, this reference is still considered one of the most important classic works in the field. With the owner's sig. of 'Paul MacLean' in Potomac Maryland; MacLean was a neuroscientist who added greatly to our knowledge of the workings of the human brain. From the dust jacket: 'Hughlings Jackson', according to Dr. R. Foster Kennedy, late ditinguished Director of the Cornell U. Medical College and President of the American Neurological Assoc., 'might indeed be called the Father of Neurology; [he was] an Argus-eyed observer w/ a passion for detail and a brooding intelligence which made him see general law emerge from a chaos of detail; he represented in himself the Spirit of Science in medicine.' "With the publication of this two-volume set, totaling over 1000 pages, John Hughlings Jackson's prinicipal writings, which thoroughly revolutionized the foundations and practice of modern neuropsychiatry, are again available after being long out of print." "Here in chronological sequence, the development of Hughling Jackson's thought is recreated- from his early investigations of convulsive seizures, through the now-famous researches into the nature of epilepsy, chorea and hemiplegia, up until his mature years, when his interests were no longer mainly diagnostic, but had come more and more to embrace the philosophical."
