About this Item: Random House, New York, 1946. Oatmeal Cloth w Gilt Titling. Condition: Very Good Plus. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good (Brodarted). First Printing Stated. This 622 page collection of brilliance is presented in the original oatmeal colored cloth with blue spine block containing gilt titling. Binding and text block is rock solid tight and clean save for slight dusting to top of text block. UNCLIPPED ($3.50) jacket is quite sunned on the spine and there are a couple small edge chips. But not to worry, for said imperfection is made considerably less objectionable, since, on the very positive side of things, the jacket is now protected from any future ambient abuse and resulting degradation by expertly fitted and applied yet instantly removable Brodart mylar. Enough said of offerings which speak loudly for themselves. Acquire, enjoy, and share the fact that two months before Gertrude Stein died in Paris, on July 27, 1946, she examined the manuscript for this volume and cabled her enthusiastic approval. By following mail she sent 'A Message from Gertrude Stein,' which appears on Page vii. It is probably the last word from her pen. This collection, lovingly and authoritatively gathered by Carl Van Vechten, contains 'a sample of practically every period and every manner in Gertrude Stein's career from the earliest to the latest.' ." Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover. Seller Inventory # 010038
