About this Item: GRIN Publishing, 2012. Paperback. Condition: New. 1. Auflage.. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.Seminar paper from the year 2010 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1,7, University of Wuppertal, language: English, abstract: Women mistaken for men, men mistaken for women, disguised as men - this play with identity and gender does not seem to be a new topic for the theatre audience of the 21. century. But in Elizabethan England, where identity and the question of class were very important for society, these confusing relationships shown on stage must have been puzzling. Although confusions over identity are nothing new in comedy since classical times, it is Shakespeare who mainly focused on the issue of gender in his comedies. In Twelfth Night he plays with the cultural constructions of his time, for example the question of gender and erotic attraction, even between partners of the same sex. About this Item: Hodder & Soughton (cir. 1908), London, 1908. Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good-. Illustrated by W. Heath Robinson (illustrator). First Trade Edition. 1. Publisher's full green cloth with gilt embossed design with a jester on the cover, gilt lettering on cover and spine. Illustrated with 40 tissue protected, tipped-in color plates by W. Heath Robinson. "A very handsome volume. Mr. Robinson's illustrations, numbering forty in all, are effective in colouring and design ; the paper and print are of the sumptuous kind ; altogether, the form is worthy of the matter. We must not forget that there is an "argument" of the play, extending to twenty-four pages, the work of Mr. Quiller- Couch. This anticipation of the plot of the drama is according to venerable precedent, and is certainly to be welcomed when it is the work of so skilful a hand as that of Mr. Quiller-Couch. The text, we should say, is that of the Oxford edition.". Front cover has a large ink spill, head and heel of spine and tips are rubbed, upper tip of front cover is bumped, water stain to top edge not affecting any plates or text, else unmarked, tight, square, and clean. VERY GOOD-. Color Plates. Small 4to 9" - 11" tall. xxiv, 144 pp. Seller Inventory # 21083

About this Item: Hodder & Stoughton, 1908. First edition. Original green boards in a green dustwrapper, titled in dark green with a plate mounted to the upper cover. A very good copy indeed in a very good dustwrapper, showing some overall signs of wear. Forty colour plates, one with a light corner crease, tipped onto dark green mounts, and protected by captioned tissue guards. In this book Robinson uses a Pre Raphaelite style of colouring and plates have a dreamy effect, similar to those in his "Song of the English". His illustrations brilliantly sum up the dreamlike atmosphere of the play. Seller Inventory # 36130
