From the library of noted American poet Denise Levertov, signed by her on front endpaper in pencil (as 'Levertoff' before she changed the spelling of her name). With an earlier ink gift inscription, most likely unrelated. 'Sintram' was of particular influence on William Morris.frontis By Albrecht Durer; 20 b/w Illustrations By Edmund J. Sullivan.

This work is part of a series of tales based on the seasons, with this work being inspired by winter. The work was also inspired by an engraving by Albert Durer titles 'Knight of Death'. Fouque is best known for his other work from this series based on Spring titled 'Undine'. In the publisher's original cloth. Externally very smart with fading to the spine and to the extremities of the rear board with the odd minor mark. Front hinge starting with light spotting and offsetting to the endpapers with front free end paper missing. Internally firmly bound with the odd spot and generally bright pages. Very Good. book.
