Sir George Cayley, Bt., is now internationally recognised as the true inventor of the modern aeroplane and the founder of the science of aerodynamics. After experimenting with models, he built and flew (unmanned) the world’s first full-size modern-configuration glider in 1809. In 1809-10 he published his great triple paper "On Aerial Navigation", from which the whole of modern aerodynamics and modern flying derives. By 1849 the author had constructed and successfully flown a full-size tri-plane glider which also carried a boy for brief distances; and in 1853, when over eighty, the world’s first true man-carrying glider flight was made when the author despatched his unwilling coachman across a dale at Brompton Hall, near Scarborough. Every achievement by the author is fully documented and described for the first time, accompanied by plates and illustrations. Seller Inventory # C133B401

About this Item: London : Her Majesty's Stationery Office, 1962. XXIII, 269 pages. With plates and textfigures. Original cloth binding. (No dustjacket). 25x15 cm Sir George Cayley, 6. Baronet, (* 27. Dezember 1773 in Scarborough, Yorkshire; † 15. Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 800. Seller Inventory # 123168
