Buchan's first novel, a romantic tale set in the Galloway hills. 188pp + 4pp publisher's catalogue. Black cloth with yellow lettering and yellow, green and red flower illustration. Variants exist with the full title on the spine and a shortened form; this is one of the former. Rubbed at the extremities and some scuff marks on the rear. The front hinge is cracked and partially split but this would be a straightforward bookbinding repair. The rear hinge is partially cracked. Buchan's first novel, a romantic tale of the Borders, published whilst he was still at Oxford University. 188pp + 4pp publisher's adverts. Black cloth with yellow, green and red lettering and decoration. This is the variant with the shortened title 'Sir Quixote' on the spine and front board. Bright with a couple of tiny marks on the rear. Corners lightly bumped and a hint of rubbing at the spine ends. The cloth has a small crease in it at one rear corner and there is a tiny split in the rear join of the board and spine. Internally quite bright with a few light handling marks and lightly browned endpapers. The rear fly-leaf has the top one-third missing. The binding is firm, although cracked in places. Sir Quixote of the Moors was John Buchan's first novel written when he was an undergraduate. This is a unique novel of a haunting Scottish lifestyle that differs from Buchan's later works, such as "The Thirty-Nine Steps" (1915). A lovely copy of this masterful author. Original black cloth boards with coloured imprint illustrations on the cover. Corners and edges of the cover are bumped and the spine ends are worn. The spine is rubbed and colours are faded. Rear panel has a small area of fading on the edge. The contents are clean and tidy. Hinges are slightly beginning to frail in a few places but the book holds together very well. 8vo 188 printed pages with 4 pages of advertisments at the end. no signature. Seller Inventory # 000080

The bricks on the front cover are red, the flowers yellow and the flower stems light brown with green leaves. The colours on the front are bright but the spine is a little scuffed and the corners are rubbed. There is some patchy fading on the rear. Lightly rubbed extremities but very bright otherwise. Very good internally but the front hinge is just beginning to crack although the binding remains firm. Pasted inside the front cover is a sheet of paper signed “John Buchan Sept: 16: 1920) and the fly-leaf is signed “B Consitt Boulter Novr. 1897”.
