About this Item: Arkham House USA, 1946. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition.... Cloth. Very Good/Good. This is the world true First Edition, First Impression. The first appearance in book form of a very significant science fiction classic, in 1946, was the author's debut. Only 4,000 copies were printed by August Derleth's ground breaking publishing house, Arkham. SLAN was the third Arkham book, and the cover design and artwork was by Robert F. Hubbell. This first impression is not a perfect copy, which is reflected in the price. Copies of the true first edition can easily be double this. This copy is however complete, in a dustjacket that is also complete, but chipped and worn. The jacket is now safely protected inside a mylar sleeve. Binding still pretty tight, corners not bumped. A giant classic of 20th Century sci-fi. 0.0 0.0 0.0. Seller Inventory # 001940

Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good-. 1st Edition. 1st printing. 13.5 x 19.2cm black boards with brown stamped titles to the spine. 216pp (1) with original unclipped jacket with $2.50 price. Internally, the book is without names or inscriptions and has only a small, light mark to the edge of the text block. There is slight loss to the corners and some chipping to the head of the spine with the author's name rendered indistinct. There are 4 small closed tears of less than 1cm to the top and bottom edges and a little light associated creasing. . All these are difficult to see as the jacket is now protected by a removable archival cover. About this Item: Arkham House, Sauk City, 1946. Hardback. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Robert F. Hubbell (illustrator). 1st Edition. Sauk City, Arkham House, 1946. First Edition. First Impression. An interesting copy of van Vogt's best known and perhaps best book. One of Arkham's early foray's into science fiction. Interesting because it has a few 'additions' to the book; a printed photo of van Vogt pasted for the front endpaper along with a gift inscription "For J.C. Brown \ with best wishes \ A.E. van Vogt". One assumes that it wasn't van Vogt who decorated the endpaper. Further to this no fewer than five reviews, catalogue descriptions etc. have been pasted to the pastedown and endpapers (recto AND verso!). So, interesting! The jacket is in decent shape, though has been taped to the inside top and bottom edges, and wrapped round to the flaps. This has transferred through somewhat to the outside. But, no real tears or wear. A little foxing to edges and prelims. Spine faded. Good only. Cover art / illustrations by Robert F. Hubbell [5685, Hyraxia Books]. Signed by Author(s).
