Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. A humorous look at Seattle history and the city's founders. The first sentence of the book pretty much sets the mood: "I'm sure there must have been somebody who participated in the construction of Seattle without first determining whether there was a buck in it for himself, but this book isn't about him." The author was a Seattle resident who was publisher of the Seattle Guide, a weekly entertainment publication about what's going on in Seattle, and who led Underground Tours, conducted in the Pioneer Square area. Book itself is in very good condition, clean and with a tight binding. Front endpapers have a drawing entitled "Composite Map of Seattle's Birthplace," and rear endpapers have a map of the city showing the extent of the 1889 "great fire." Dust jacket (in Brodart jacket) has significant chip to the top of the spine, along with a tear along the edge of the spine; other small chips are tears around the edges. Stated first edition, may be first printing based on absence of other printing information.

"Here is a book that not only rattles the skeletons in Seattle's historical closets -- it even reaches in and audaciously tickles thier funnybones. While lightly and entertainingly written, the book is deeply researched, and the many interesting anecdotes that pepper it are true. It's a lively, lusty, and often irreverernt look at the factions and fights that made Seattle America's youngest major metropolis during her first fifty years.and at who made a buck along the way."
