McKelvey of Latrobe Pa.'s name in pencil on ffep. not known if she replaced some of the text with the newspaper strips ; additionally some other pages were cut out): pages 37-38, 41-42, 45-46,49-50,53-54,57-58, 61,62, 69-70,73-764, 77-78,81-82,85-86,89-90,93-94,97-98,101-102,105-106,109-110,11 3-114. It appears that the owner cut them out and was going to cover them as were the other pages but apparently never got back to the project, thankfully, There is one map of the Gettyburg battlefield and Union and Rebel hospitals included. Generally all the pages are without markings although typical browning . except for the missing pages, book is a great find, rare and collectible MORE IMAGES UPON REQUEST. All the missing contents for the missing pages can be found on line. Tissue-guarded Frontispiece, full-page illustrations. Very good. Though internally tight and exceptionally bright and lovely, binding is lightly edgeworn and corner bumped, with the spine typically chipped at head and tail, with minor roughness along outer hinges. First of this edition, being an expanded version of Raymond's 1864 Lincoln biography (Monaghan 347). Raymond (1820-69) was an influential American journalist who co-founded the "New York Times" in 1851 and served as its editor from 1851 until his death; a Whig, he served as New York's lieutenant governor (1855-57) and in 1856 helped found the Republican Party, serving as second chairman of the Republican National Committee; he was elected to the House of Representatives, serving one term (1865-67); in 1864 he wrote "History of the Administration of President Lincoln," which after Lincoln's assassination was expanded in 1865 into "the present volume. Gilt facsimile signature of President Lincoln on the book cover is complete and bright. It would be hard to find a book of this age and importance in better condition.
